Frequently asked questions

How is BMI calculated?

BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². For imperial units the tool converts your input first. It is a screening figure, not a diagnosis.

What are the BMI categories?

Under 18.5 is underweight, 18.5–24.9 is normal, 25–29.9 is overweight, and 30 or above is in the obese range (adult ranges).

Is BMI accurate for everyone?

BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat, so it can misclassify very muscular or older individuals. Treat it as a rough guide and consult a professional for advice.
